Combined Use of Cigarettes and Smokeless Tobacco

The rates of individuals who smoke cigarettes and use smokeless tobacco are on the rise. Like cigarettes, using smokeless tobacco carries a number of health risks-including increases in fatal heart attacks, strokes, and certain types of cancer. Furthermore, using cigarettes and smokeless tobacco in combination makes it much more difficult for individuals to quit. In an effort to curb this trend, the CDC recommends that increases in tobacco prices, more aggressive anti-tobacco campaigns, and well-funded tobacco control programs be put into practice across the U.S., and that greater efforts should be aimed at helping individuals quit using all forms of tobacco.
